Due to Stage 3 of ETFO’s work to rule, I will not be updating this blog after Monday, until a resolution is reached. I can still be reached at lisa_noble@kprdsb.ca. I’m @nobleknits2 on Twitter, and our class hashtag is #laclasseaqm.
Welcome to another year at QM! I’m Madame Noble, and I will be teaching Core French to students in Grade 5/6-8. I will also be teaching music (vocal and instrumental) to those classes.
On this blog, you’ll find what we’re doing in class, important dates, permission forms/letters to download and print at home (in case they didn’t make it home in the backpack), the trivia questions the class has been challenged with each week, and some links to websites, music and books you might find interesting.
I’ve chosen to use a blog in the hopes that it will start a conversation – so please feel free to leave a comment or a questions. Let’s keep the lines of communication open.
The big goal in my classroom is being able to communicate in our second language. We do our best to speak only in French, as much as we can, and to use the vocabulary we’re learning (using the AIM approach, where there is a sign-language type action for every word we learn – I sign, and the students speak) to convey our ideas. There’s a list here of the words we start with, and a look over it, to review, or remind your children of how much they know, would be a great idea.

This week in French:
We played around a bunch with numbers and alphabet this week – can your child spell their name fairly quickly. All classes should be comfortable with numbers 1-31, and we will be working towards mastering 1-100.  This week, we’ll be introducing a friend, and starting to work on introducing ourselves in more detail.
Music: we worked on fitting two different rhythms together, and will follow that up with a partner song- different from a round. Some of the classes started the first song – “chicken”.

Reminder to return your e-mail address, so I can send you the link to the blog. Thanks so much to those of you who have already done that.
intro letter 2015
Coming events:
September 25: PA Day
September 30: Intermediate soccer- contact Mr Lush
September 30: Terry Fox Run
October 8: cross-country meet – contact Mme Daley or Mrs Sargeant
Trivia Questions:
1. Qui est le nouveau capitaine des Canadiens de Montréal?
2. Pourquoi est-ce qu’il y a le hashtag “I Stand With Ahmed”?

Website: Thought this might make for an interesting discussion with your intermediate kids: Why millennials won’t run for office

This was Make magazine’s response to the event that inspired trivia question 2.

Book:  Anyone else a member of what we affectionately term the Costco book club? That’s those of us who check out the titles at Costco, and then get them out from the library. :). My most recent find was The Memory Painter . Just downloaded it on OverDrive, and looking forward to diving in.

Also a reminder (if you have older kids at home) of the public library’s pizza and pages group. They meet 1 Thursday a month to eat and discuss a book – you can pick up a free copy at the info desk, while they last. Next book: The Face on the Milk Carton

Music:  Something happened this week that made me feel both old, and kind of joyful. New Order (yes, that New Order) released a new single, which means a whole new generation gets to discover how cool New Order was, and is. Also appreciate the option of official audio vs video.
