I’m Madame Noble, and I teach Core French to students in Grade 5/6-8. I also teach music (vocal and instrumental) to those classes.
On this blog, you’ll find what we’re doing in class, important dates, permission forms/letters to download and print at home (in case they didn’t make it home in the backpack), the trivia questions the class has been challenged with each week, and some links to websites, music and books you might find interesting.
I’ve chosen to use a blog in the hopes that it will start a conversation – so please feel free to leave a comment or a questions. Let’s keep the lines of communication open.
The big goal in my classroom is being able to communicate in our second language. We do our best to speak only in French, as much as we can, and to use the vocabulary we’re learning (using the AIM approach, where there is a sign-language type action for every word we learn – I sign, and the students speak) to convey our ideas. There’s a list here of the words we start with, and a look over it, to review, or remind your children of how much they know, would be a great idea.
Grade 5/6: Last prep for play presentations- getting props and costumes ready. this class is doing an amazing job on this!
Grade 6: Working towards presentation of the plays. Don’t forget to think about props and costumes.
Grade 7: Lush/Najarro: When we return from camp we’ll be wrapping up our learning about French in the Americas (outside Canada). Ask your kids what they’re learning.
Grade 8: We got to watch most of the plays on Friday, and they were wonderful. Ask about the hilarious videos your kids created (I’ll share some here, if I get permissions)
Music: We did it! And hopefully, you heard about it – the junior classes did some amazing listening, and everybody got to try a trumpet this week (and some of them made remarkable sounds). I was so impressed. 7’s have one more music class, and we’ll try and make that a playing class.

Band: Band trip was amazing! Thanks to everyone who made it a success (special thanks to Jane, Jill and Sandy). I could use a few band-ies to come help sort music at the end of this week or next.

Website: Because it’s Father’s Day, this post seemed particularly appropriate this morning. Whoever it is, take a moment to be thankful for the person that makes it possible for you to look like you “do it all”.

Books: Working on what I’m packing for camp. Definitely, The Back of the Turtle by Thomas King, which is hitting all the post-apocalyptic notes for me; and just for fun, probably Carry On, a Harry Potter-ish scoop by YA fave, Rainbow Rowell. What’s on your deck chair list?
Music: Got a point in this direction from the Twitterverse yesterday. I could live with this as my soundtrack on that dock, with my book.
