I can be reached at lisa_noble@kprdsb.ca. I’m @nobleknits2 on Twitter, and our class hashtag is #laclasseaqm.
Our big word in terms of learning this year at QM is WHY?  (POURQUOI?) Be sure to ask your kids why they’re learning what they’re learning (and, if you like, share the conversations in the comments)

Thanks to everyone who came out to support the art show and performances at Spring Fling. It was a great evening.

Class Updates:

Grade 7/8: lots of passé composé work here; our eventual goal will be creating a learning tool that other students can use to learn the topic. Ask your child about what resources they’re finding that suit their learning style.

Grade 6/7: working on some writing to describe ourselves and our interests, which fits with the CEFR goals (you can see the wheels of those goals below)

Grade 5/6: Still focusing on comprehension, and on using the vocabulary we have to help us communicate.

Grade 4:  We’ll be playing around with “phrases bizarres” this week, as well as working on comprehension strategies.

Gesture vocab with english

In all classes, 10 minutes or so each day of reviewing new vocabulary at home (or review vocabulary right now) is very helpful. Let your kids teach you what they’re learning!

Instrumental music update: Every day (except Tuesdays) are open sign-out days – that means that anyone can take their instrument out after school. No class has first priority. Please encourage your child to bring their instrument home, as practice is one of the only ways to keep improving.

Wonderland trip is a GO! If you wish to come with us, you need a valid police check. Departure details, soon.

Trivia Questions:

1. Qu’est-ce qui s’est passé (what happened) en juin, 1989, à Beijing?

2. Pourquoi est-ce que les Soeurs de Notre-Dame, à Montréal, sont très contentes?

Web:Are you someone who dreams of other places? Does the idea of traveling make your heart race with excitement? Exploring these two sites (with or without your kids) may give you a fix when the budget just won’t co-operate. Secret Door takes you places around the world, and you can happily explore (we’ve used this one in class, to describe what we see), and Map Crunch does much the same, but lets you be specific about where you want to go. Have fun!

Book: Absolutely ripped through Lauren Oliver’s “Panic” this weekend. Great YA thriller, about a dead-end town, an empathetic bunch of characters, and the dark game they get involved in one summer. Meth, tigers, and how to face your darkest fears all play a role. Definitely a beach book, despite that description.

Music: The 7/8 students are working on an assignment in music, doing an analysis of a favourite song. Here’s my most recent favourite. Can’t help but think it would make a great flash mob.
