I can always be reached at firstname.lastname@example.org. I’m @nobleknits2 on Twitter, and our class hashtag is #laclasseaqm. We post what we’re learning on Edsby.
I’m Madame Noble, and I teach Core French to students in Grade 5/6-8. I also teach music (vocal and instrumental) to those classes.
On this blog, you’ll find what we’re doing in class, important dates, permission forms/letters to download and print at home (in case they didn’t make it home in the backpack), the trivia questions the class has been challenged with each week, and some links to websites, music and books you might find interesting.
I’ve chosen to use a blog in the hopes that it will start a conversation – so please feel free to leave a comment or a questions. Let’s keep the lines of communication open.
The big goal in my classroom is being able to communicate in our second language. We do our best to speak only in French, as much as we can, and to use the vocabulary we’re learning (using the AIM approach, where there is a sign-language type action for every word we learn – I sign, and the students speak) to convey our ideas. There’s a list here of the words we start with, and a look over it, to review, or remind your children of how much they know, would be a great idea.
Grade 5/6: These students did an amazing job talking about their goals for 2016. Ask them! Working on the play this week.
Grade 6: We really enjoyed our 3 Kings day treat – Angel won the prize. This week, we’ll be working on our resolutions, and new vocabulary. (and learning our numbers in French and Arabic)
Grade 7: Lush: Ask about our 3 Kings day treat, playing number games in Arabic, and check out our games on Edsby. We’ll be working on resolutions this week. Najarro: working hard on classroom expectations, and starting our resolutions.
Grade 8: Working on our resolutions, and hopefully starting a new unit on extreme adventures. We’ve been focusing on classroom expectations.
Music: 8’s are playing; 7’s are almost there; 6’s started creating music with Incredibox, and 5/6’s did some great work on a 700 year old song about the 3 Kings for 3 Kings day.
Instrument loan permission form is below for intermediates.
Reminder to return your e-mail address, so I can send you the link to the blog. Thanks so much to those of you who have already done that.

Website: We’re on a fairly major learning curve at Queen Mary with our newly arriving families from the Syrian crisis. We’re learning new words all the time. This site has been very helpful: newbury park learn arabic
I also found some flashcards here, if your kids want to practice their welcoming language (there are french ones, too).
Book: My kids and I all enjoyed The Runaways , a Marvel comics series. Dark, but engaging and some really interesting writing. Definitely 12 and up!
Music: This house is on a BIG Brandi Carlile kick, thanks to CBC Radio 2. this is the current high rotation song. Her range is amazing. Her version of Alphaville’s Forever Young is my personal favourite, so if you’re an 80’s throwback, check it out.
