I’m Madame Noble, and I teach Core French to students in Grade 5-8.

The big goal in my classroom is being able to communicate in our second language. We do our best to speak only in French, as much as we can, and to use the vocabulary we’re learning (using the AIM approach, where there is a sign-language type action for every word we learn – I sign, and the students speak) to convey our ideas. There’s a list here of the words we start with, and a look over it, to review, or remind your children of how much they know, would be a great idea.

In all classes, 10 minutes or so each day of reviewing  vocabulary at home  is very helpful. Let your kids teach you what they’re learning!

Class Updates: (you can always check edsby for most up-to-date information)

Grade 5: Students have started presenting their plays. Ask about how it’s going.

Grade 5/6: Working on a retell this week – writing a brief summary of the story, in our own words.

Grade 6: Having conversations with Madame about the schedules we wrote. Have you seen some of them on Edsby?

Grade 7/8 and 8: Budget presentations to Madame. Then some comprehension work about Haiti.

Grade 6/7: Starting into the last stages of our passe-temps learning.

Trivia  Questions

1. Qui est Sepp Blatter, et quel est le problème avec FIFA?

2. Qu’est-ce que c’est, la commission de vérité et de réconciliation du Canada?

Website: If you, or your kid, is a creator of content on the web, this post, which came from my friend Doug yesterday morning, will be your new best friend. It’s a point to a portal full of resources for fonts, photos and more. The photo section alone is worth saving for copyright-free images. Makerbook

On a completely different note, following the hashtag #myreconciliationincludes has been an education, leading up to the June 2 release of the commission’s report.

Books: What are you reading? Parent Karen Clysdale mentioned in the comments that the new Penderwicks books has arrived (4th in the beautiful, innocent, hilarious, wonderful series). If you grew up with books about resourceful kids having adventures without their parents, these are books you want to share with  your kids. My 14 year old son liked them enough that he’s game to read this one, too.

Music: These two were on q a couple of weeks ago, and I was instantly transported back to my days of listening to Simon and Garfunkel. S and G for the new generation: The Milk Carton Kids
