Welcome to another year at QM! I’m Madame Noble, and I will be teaching Core French to students in Grade 5-8.

The big goal in my classroom is being able to communicate in our second language. We do our best to speak only in French, as much as we can, and to use the vocabulary we’re learning (using the AIM approach, where there is a sign-language type action for every word we learn – I sign, and the students speak) to convey our ideas. There’s a list here of the words we start with, and a look over it, to review, or remind your children of how much they know, would be a great idea.

In all classes, 10 minutes or so each day of reviewing  vocabulary at home  is very helpful. Let your kids teach you what they’re learning!

Class Updates:

Grade 5 :We started to review/introduce some new vocabulary- they should be comfortable up to the half-way point on List 3 – as far as oublié (forgot). MC Madame even made her first appearance this year, so you can ask about that!

Grade 5/6: This group jumped right into their new vocabulary this week. We learned some great new words (d’accord – okay was a favourite). Ask them to share some of their new words (fenêtre -window, lumière – light, ordinateur – computer) with you. We had a lot of fun, and MC Madame was a huge hit.

Grade 6: We did a circle question this week around what we ate on the weekend, and started into some new vocabulary that we’ll see in the play.

6/7, 7/8, 8: all 3 intermediates are working on final edits of their Pinterest board. We’ve created success criteria together, and students will be sharing 3 of their pictures with the class. Ask them about using on-line translation tools, and figuring out how to find the right word, when you’re using unfamiliar vocabulary.

Our success criteria for the task is here
