Welcome to another year at QM! I’m Madame Noble, and I will be teaching Core French to students in Grade 5-8.

The big goal in my classroom is being able to communicate in our second language. We do our best to speak only in French, as much as we can, and to use the vocabulary we’re learning (using the AIM approach, where there is a sign-language type action for every word we learn – I sign, and the students speak) to convey our ideas. There’s a list here of the words we start with, and a look over it, to review, or remind your children of how much they know, would be a great idea.

In all classes, 10 minutes or so each day of reviewing  vocabulary at home  is very helpful. Let your kids teach you what they’re learning!

Class Updates:

Grade 5 :We did some Thanksgiving (Action de Grâce) vocabulary – they should have brought a sheet home with some foods that you might have on your table this weekend. Lots of new vocabulary coming next week – please ask them to show you what they`re learning.

Grade 5/6: This class also did some Thanksgiving vocab, and has a  food sheet to share as well. We’ll jump into more new vocab next week, as well as working on our phone numbers in French.

Grade 6: The new opening rap is getting really fluid – great job! We`ll do a Thanksgiving food activity on Tuesday to remember what we ate, and start into some new vocabulary.

Grade 6/7: We’ve started our self-assessment wheels, and have also started our Pinterest boards to talk about interests with others. Students will have to present their boards, and answer classmates’ questions about them.

Grade 7/8 and 8: These groups are also creating Pinterest boards to explain their interests and pastimes. They also completed a survey to tell me what topics they’d like to learn about this year in French.

Band news: There will be band practice on Wednesday morning this week. Several students have signed out instruments and music – those MUST be in the building for band practice. Long and McQuade have opened a shop in town (in the Bud’s Music location) – should mean cleaning kits  and reeds available for your kids, at a reasonable price!

Trivia  Questions

1. Qui a gagné le prix Nobel de la paix?

2. Comment s’appelle le typhon à Japon?

Website: This was a very interesting piece. If you have a gamer at your house, you might find that this isn’t new information for you. Minecraft and reading

Books: I actually thought there was a fair amount to dive into here. Some of the non-fiction looks particularly interesting. Hope some of you can use some of these suggestions with your own book clubs. book club choices

Music: This one appeared Friday afternoon in my Twitter feed. I admit being fond of the original, and this is amazing! stay with me
