Our big word in terms of learning this year at QM is WHY? (POURQUOI?) Be sure to ask your kids why they’re learning what they’re learning (and, if you like, share the conversations in the comments)
Grade 7/8: students have been working on direction vocabulary, and having a great deal of fun creating “tableaux”-type scenes of the action in our main text.
Grade 6/7: Continuing to build vocabulary, and working on expressing our opinions in our second language.
Grade 5/6: We’re working on making sure we understand new material as we learn it. Some terrific work in this class on expressing opinions on everyday topics, in French.
Grade 4: We’ve been working hard on our weather vocabulary, so be sure to ask about that. Students continue to build their vocabulary. Please have a look at the list, and see how comfortable your child is with words all the way up to “vite” and “lentement” near the end of list 6.
In all classes, 10 minutes or so each day of reviewing new vocabulary at home (or review vocabulary right now) is very helpful. Let your kids teach you what they’re learning!
Instrumental music update: Band practice is Wednesday. Doors will open at 8 am, and students should be in chairs, ready to play by 8:10 – get ready for Christmas carols! Watch for a hand-out soon about communication for band. Signout continues to go VERY well – we’ll switch to open sign-out this week – one class will have first choice, but anyone can come take an instrument, if there’s one available.

Web: The students made me promise not to share this one until after magazine sales were done, so…. here you are! If you are a magazine reader with a tablet, get yourself to the public library’s main site. From there, follow the links for Zinio, and you will find access to an amazing number of popular magazine titles. All are available for free, with no return dates, and no limits on how many you can take out. Yup, it’s true. Check it out – I’m enjoying it immensely right now. You’ll need a library card. public library site
Book: Finally read Divergent this weekend, after all the excitement over last week’s release of the 3rd book in that series, Allegiant. Exciting, lots of great moral questions, definitely a young adult book, though – dark and difficult, with a great deal of violence, and some sexual content. Would be an amazing one to really dig into with your child, if you both wanted to read it. good reads page for veronica roth
Music: Fell in love with this this week. Came over the Twitterverse, and I couldn’t resist sharing it. Lovely message, and music.
